ELEVATOR MODERNIZATION SUCCESS STORY

CHALLENGE IN A RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX
Property group Akelius chose KONE to replace unreliable elevators in its Flundran residential complex in Eskilstuna. We had the challenge of not only following a tight schedule but also causing minimal inconvenience to residents, who include elderly people using wheelchairs or walkers.
Practical approach
Our project in Eskilstuna was a great success. Modern elevators make life easier and more comfortable for residents, with automatic doors improving safety and increasing available space. Additionally, KONE and Akelius in close cooperation came up with an ingenious solution that meant residents did not have to move out during the modernization process – they were able to reach their apartments through an attic of a neighboring building.

FAST AND EFFICIENT MODERNIZATION PROJECT – ON TIME AND ON BUDGET
1. PLANNING

You will have a dedicated project manager for smooth and effective collaboration during the whole process. Before the modernization work begins, your KONE contact will conduct a site survey together with you to finalize the site requirements. We make sure that everyone who uses the building is able to move around safely and that all permits, plans, and calculations have been checked and approved by the relevant local authorities.
2. INSTALLATION

During the project, we do everything possible to minimize disturbance to everyday life in the building. Our installation team protects the floors, walls, and walkways to make sure they are not damaged, and makes every effort to keep noise and dust to a minimum.
3. COMPLETION

We offer full transparency in our work: you will be constantly up to date on every aspect of the project. We communicate proactively keeping the building users informed as well, simplifying your job.

WHAT DOES IT COST?
Elevator modernization is an investment that pays off in the long run. A safe, smoothly functioning and good-looking elevator makes a great first impression on residents and investors alike, increasing the value of the building over years to come. Also, the work itself is not as expensive as you might think.
Costs will vary depending on the individual case, but a typical full replacement costs about 40,000–100,000 euros. For a five-story building with 30 apartments, the cost is around 100,000 euros. The total cost to you may be considerably less, since in many countries subsidies are available to help building owners make elevators safer, more accessible, and more energy efficient.

FINANCIAL ISSUES TO CONSIDER
- Many European countries provide subsidies for modernization. These can cover up to 70% of the total cost.
- These may be supplemented by subsidies from local government and the EU.
- We offer different levels of modernization to provide flexibility when it comes to paying for your project.
- In some European countries, we can provide financing to spread the cost over several years.
- We can provide further information about available subsidies in your area.
* The exact timeframe varies from one elevator modernization project to the next, as does the cost. It all comes down to what our customers prefer. For example, when necessary, it’s possible to complete a project in a very limited timeframe, but this will increase the cost.
